Baylor Athletics’ tough day against the University of Oklahoma continued with the No. 7 women’s tennis team falling 4-2 to the No. 2 Sooners on Friday in the quarterfinals of the Big 12 Championship at the Jayhawk Tennis Center at Rock Chalk Park in Lawrence. , Kan.

The Bears (16-13) won the doubles point just like the men’s team did in the previous match, when the sophomore duo of Alina Shcherbinina and Brooke Thompson outscored their opponents 6-4 on court three.

Fifth-year senior Paula Barañano and freshman Daniella Dimitrov were unable to beat the No. 10 tandem of graduated senior Ivana Corley and senior Carmen Corley. The Corley siblings defeated Barañano and Dimitrov 6-3 on the first court.

But senior Isabella Harvison and sophomore Anita Sahdiieva posted a 6-4 win on court two over a pair of 43s by sophomore Alexandra Pisavera and senior Layna Sleeth to secure the double for Baylor.

OU (19-8) clawed back with a 6-1, 6-2 win on court three before taking a 2-1 lead after a 6-4, 6-0 win on No. 5. The Sooners found another win on court six, but Harvison cut the Bears’ deficit to one , thanks to his 6-1, 6-3 victory at No. 4. Harvison’s win marked his team-leading 16th singles win of the season.

Oklahoma grabbed its overall victory after winning the second court 6-2, 6-1.

Head coach Joey Scrivano said “the game was tough today” and he expects the team to grow from the loss.

“We started out strong, but ended up falling a little short in singles,” Scrivano said. “Now we just have to wait until the end of the season with the NCAA tournament. Overall, it was a good tournament for us this week. We learned a lot from our last two games and we’ll go back and see how we can improve and we’ll do that.
