Cricket-Sydney Cricket Ground gates named after Tendulkar, Lara | WSAU News/Talk 550 AM 99.9 FM

SYDNEY (Reuters) The gates at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) have been named in honor of Sachin Tendulkar and Brian Lara to mark the 50th birthday of the Indians and the 30th anniversary of the West Indies batsman’s 277 innings.

Cricket Australia said visiting players would pass through the gates on their way to the field from the away dressing room in the members’ pavilion. Home players enter the field through gates named after Australian Don Bradman.

The Sydney Cricket Ground has been my favorite ground away from India, Tendulkar, who scored three centuries in five Tests at the SCG and celebrated his birthday on Monday, said in a Cricket Australia press release.

I’ve had great memories at the SCG right from my first tour of Australia. It’s a great honor to have the gates that all the visiting cricketers use to enter the playing field at the SCG, named after me and my good friend Brian.

Lara, a frequent visitor to Australia, scored a brilliant double century in his first Test at the ground in January 1993.

“I am very honored to be recognized at the Sydney Cricket Ground, as I am sure Sachin is,” said the 53-year-old Trinidadian.

The country holds many special memories for me and my family and I always enjoy my visit whenever I am in Australia.
