The West Stanley men’s tennis team has put together a season the likes of which the sport has not seen in recent memory.

According to head coach Spayne Furr, the Colts recently went 9-0 over Monroe to go 16-0 this season and have the most wins in the state in Class 2A and Class 3A.

This year’s 16 wins is remarkable considering the team has just 11 wins over the past five seasons.

In individual matches, West has won 72 and lost 17, with the closest decision coming in a 5-4 victory over Central Academy.

Individually, West has two doubles pairings that are undefeated this season: JT Barbee / Zak Bondurant and Nate Barringer / Matthew Parker. Barbee, Parker and Nic Smith are also undefeated in singles.

Also undefeated are five players playing in exhibition games who do not count towards team points: Ethan Barringer, Cody Carter, Sawyer Elwood, Jaxon Griffin and Sawyer Griffin.

When individual games have gone to a tie, the Colts are 12-1 in those games.

Both doubles players, along with Smith and Kaden Littlen, will play in the upcoming Rocky River Conference singles and doubles tournaments.

West Stanly opens play May 3 in the NCHSAA dual team playoffs in the 2A classification.
