Crosstown Neighbor Seattle U visits Husky Ballpark on Tuesday

SEATTLE Washington, playing midweek for the first time in several weeks, hosts nearby foe Seattle U on Tuesday to face the RedHawks at 6:05 PM PT at Husky Ballpark.

The game can be streamed via Washington Live Stream 2, while a link to live stats is available on the GoHuskies.com schedule page and HuskyStats.com.

DAWG BITES

After spending 1-2 weeks at The Farm at No. 9 Stanford, Washington returns home for its first Wednesday event since March 28, taking on near-neighbor Seattle U at Husky Ballpark.
Saturday’s win was UW’s first at Stanford since 2015.
Tuesday’s game can be watched live via Washington Live Stream 2.
The Huskies are currently seventh in the Pac-12 with a league record of 8-9.
After the series win over Gonzaga, Seattle U is 13-23 on the season, including 9-9 in WAC play.
Dominant Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week Kiefer Lord leads the Pac-12 in both strikeout-to-walk ratio (4.67) and WHIP (1.03).

Washington has battled Seattle neighbors Seattle U since the early days of college baseball all the way back to 1903. The Huskies lead the all-time series with the RedHawks 81-61, including 25-10 since Seattle U returned to football. Division I level in 2010.

LORD’S DAY

For the second time this season a Husky hurler Kiefer Lord has been named the Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week, joining Oregon’s Jace Stoffal as the only players to receive multiple weekly awards from the league this season. Lord pitched eight shutout innings in UW’s 9-0 win at No. 9 Stanford, matching his season high of 10 strikeouts. The eight innings was tied for the most in an outing of his career and two more than in any other game this season. Lord retired the final 16 Cardinal batters.

HE’S AWAY

For the first time since the fifth week of the season, the Husky Slugger Will Simpson does not lead the Pac-12 in home runs. Simpson’s 13 big flies this season are still good for second most in the league. The redshirt junior has failed to hit a home run in his last seven games, his longest streak since 2022’s 13-game stretch.

MOST IMPORTANTLY Victim

Friday night at Stanford, 13th inning. McKay Barney became the first Husky to record a sacrifice bunt this season. The Huskies were the second-to-last team in the country to land a sacrifice bunt, with Texas A&M giving up the first Saturday.

JOHNNY ROCKETS
Johnny Tincher has retired 10-of-23 runners attempting to steal a base this season, a good 43.5 percent success rate. Tincher’s 10 sacks are second-most in the Pac-12, though they only had the seventh-most steal attempts against him in the conference. Tincher’s field goal percentage is up 10-of-41 on the season, which is 24.4 percent.

CASE CLOSED

When the right flamethrower A matter of case called from the Husky bullpen, Washington’s victory is almost a fact. The UW closer has gone 11 straight without a run, totaling 13.1 innings. Matter has struck out 19 batters and given up just three hits during the stretch. Matter has earned four saves this season, sixth most in the Pac-12.

The Huskies have started games strong, going 37 first innings in 2023. Washington has outscored their opponents 70-31 in the first two innings of games.

Washington still boasts one of the best defenses in the Pac-12. The Huskies rank second in the conference and 20th in the country with a fielding percentage of 0.980.

STARTING STRONG

The Dawgs have gotten off to quick starts in innings, with batters hitting the frame 43.3 percent of the time. Five different Huskies reach base at least half the time in an inning. 67 of the 130 players who have taken the lead have scored.

TIME IS

Twenty-one of Washington’s games this season have been played in under three hours, including six games under two and a half hours.

ON THE HEAD

Throws six perfect innings with 10 strikeouts against Northern Colorado, Kiefer Lord was named Week 3 Perfect Game National Pitcher of the Week and Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week. The right-handed hurler was the first Husky to earn a national pitching award since Joe DeMers in 2018 and the first Husky pitcher to earn Pac-12 Weekly honors since Josh Burgmann in 2019.

IT IS OFFENSIVE

The Dawgs put up some amazing numbers during the four games with Northern Colorado. Most notable was a school-record 32 runs in the series opener. Those 32 runs are the second-most by one team in an NCAA Division I game this season (William & Mary, 33 runs). The Huskies outshot the Bears 57-12 in the series and batted .388 as a team with 15 doubles, 6 home runs, 51 RBI, 26 walks, 16 HBP and a .513 team on-base percentage.

HOME GROWN CURVES

Nearly half of the Husky roster, 19 of the 39 players, is homegrown talent from Washington state. Of those 19 local products, 16 are from the Seattle metropolitan area. Below is a breakdown of the counties UW Washington natives call home.

HEEEEEEEE’S JOHNNY

After earning All-Pac-12 and Pac-12 All-Defensive Team honors in 2022, the Washington catcher Johnny Tincher was named to the Preseason All-Pac-12 team by a vote of the conference’s head coaches.

A redshirt junior, Tincher enters his fourth season at UW after a campaign in which he finished second on the team with a .314 average. He drove in 35 runs and scored 27 more while adding 19 RBIs, including 13 doubles, five home runs and a triple. Defensively, Tincher threw out 10 of 31 runners attempting to swipe the bag last season while compiling a .989 fielding percentage.

DRIVE IT BACK

With Washington returning nearly its entire offense from the 2022 season, with seven of the eight starters returning who started 40-plus games, the Dawgs are poised to put up big numbers on the scoreboard once again.

JUCO JUMP

Washington has 10 junior college prospects on its roster. Four players come from the Washington Community and Technical Colleges system, four are products of the California Community College system and two players are from Arizona’s Maricopa County Community College District.

PAC-12 ONLINE FAMILY 15 GAMES

15 Washington baseball games have been selected this season to be shown on the Pac-12 networks. Six Husky Ballpark home games will be shown on your TV, while nine road games will be broadcast. 10 of the Dawgs’ 15 televised games will be televised in Pac-12 Washington.

2018 OWN DAWGS

2023 will mark five years since Washington’s 2018 team became the first team in program history to reach the College World Series. The Huskies ran through the Conway Regional, sweeping three games against UConn and host Coastal Carolina. UW then took a decisive Super Regional Game 3 at Cal State Fullerton, erasing a one-run deficit in the ninth inning to force extras and walking the Titans on Kaiser Weiss’ sacrifice fly to score Levi Jordan and send the Dawgs to Omaha.
