TAMPA, 25 April 2023 The South Florida football program recognized six record-setting players as the National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame announced the 2023 NFF Hampshire Honor Society inductees.
The NFF Hampshire Honor Society is comprised of college football players from all divisions of the NCAA, NAIA and sprint football who each maintained a cumulative 3.2 GPA or better throughout their college careers. 2023, setting a new record for membership in one year in the program’s 17-year history.
Among the Bulls honorees are three returning graduates for the 2023 season, including the quarterback Gerry Bohanon Jr. (Earle, Ark.), wide receiver Sean Atkins (Viera) and long snapper Andrew Beardall (Merritt Island). They were joined by graduates Brad Cecil (Jacksonville), 2022 Campbell Trophy semifinalist, cornerback Joshua Green (Palm Harbor) and guard Dustin Hall (Fat tip).
The Bulls have had 18 players named to the NFF Hampshire Honor Society since its inception, with the previous program season record of four earning the honor in 2013.
USF opens the 2023 season on Sept. 2 at Western Kentucky before returning to Raymond James Stadium to face Florida A&M on Sept. 9 and Alabama on Sept. 16. The Bulls open American Athletic Conference home play on Sept. 23 against Rice.
USF returns three primary starters on offense from 2022, four of which include senior offensive tackle Donovan Jennings (Tampa) who started four games in 2023 before a season-ending injury and brings a team-high 35 career starts into his final campaign. The Bulls return nine primary starters on defense starting in 2022, led by safety Matthew Hill (Lawrenceville, Ga.) who brings 17 career starts to his senior campaign. USF returns 22 players with starting experience, including quarterbacks Gerry Bohanon Jr. (Earle, Ark./7 starts in 2022 before season-ending injury) and Byroom Brown (Raleigh, NC / started last two games of 2022).

ABOUT USF FOOTBALL
The USF football program first started in 1997 and will complete its 26th season in 2022 while completing construction of a new $22 million indoor facility. Bulls have posted 15 winning seasons, earned 16 All-America selections, including 2021 consensus All-American kick returner Brian Battie, and had 32 first-team all-conference selections. USF has had 30 players selected in the NFL draft and has played in 10 bowl games (6-4 in those games), posting a program-record six straight bowl games from 2005-2010 and most recently four straight bowl games from 2015-18. The Bulls posted 10 straight wins in 2016 and 2017 and posted an 11-2 program record in 2016 and was ranked in the Top 25 both seasons. USF spent a program-record 20 consecutive weeks ranked in the series. In the top 25 in the 2016 and 2017 seasons and in the 2007 season even 2nd in the national ranking.
