MINNEAPOLIS The University of Minnesota won 16 titles at the first Running on Hope Invitational held at the University of Minnesota Track and Field Stadium on Wednesday. Six of the wins were by the independent Gophers, and the rest were won by the Gophers using their outdoor eligibility.

The Maroon and Gold posted several season bests and facility records on Wednesday Kostas Zaltos is most impressive in national rankings. The redshirt junior won the men’s hammer throw with a throw of 72.49 meters (237-10) to break his own record he posted last year at the Big Ten Outdoor Championships.

Winning the women’s hammer throw was fixed Shelby Frank, who also posted a field record of 65.77 meters in the event, which had stood since April 30, 2021, by Gopher great Temi Ogunrinde (65.22 m). Frank also won the women’s discus with a strong 54.61 meters (179-2), which knocked the rest of the field by nearly 15 feet.

Both Noah Kohut-Jackson (1500m) and Odell Frye (100 m) posted the best performances of the season in their own events. For Kohut-Jackson, her 3:50.64 is the second-fastest time by a Gopher in that event this season. Frye’s 11.57 surpassed the 11.58 season best he had posted earlier this year.

Other notable wins for the Golden Gophers were as a true freshman Zoe Dundon In the 3,000-meter steeplechase, a personal record time of 10:47.69. Lexy Berger won the women’s pole vault with a leap of 4.06 meters (13-3 3/4). Brooke Moore won the women’s triple jump championship with a jump of 12.24 meters (40-2).

Minnesota also had victories in the men’s shot put (Isaiah Schafer, 18.78 m | 61-7 1/2), men’s javelin throw (Austin Parsons, 63.65 m | 208-10), men’s puck (Jake Kubiatowicz, 55.13 m | 180-10), men’s 800m (Seth Eliason1:52.15), women’s 200 m (Lauren Hansen23.97), women’s 400m hurdles (Dyandra Gray1:01.06), men’s 110m hurdles (Michael Buchanan14:41) and the women’s 100-meter hurdles (Zariyah Black13.78).

Minnesota continues the final week of the regular season on the 27th-29th. April at the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa.
