LEXINGTON, VA. The 22nd-ranked Washington and Lee women’s tennis team made its second consecutive sweep of the 2023 ODAC Tournament by edging Randolph-Macon in the conference semifinals on Saturday morning.
W&L’s three doubles teams (17-6) dropped just four matches combined to go 3-0. The first year Lauren tall (Carmel, Ind. / Park Tudor) and junior Gabi Moss (Scottsdale, Ariz. / Chaparral), and juniors Izzy Koziol (Wilton, Conn. / Wilton) and Margaret Carlton (Matthews, NC / Charlotte Christian), posted 8-0 marks at No. 1 and No. 2, respectively. The first years Riho Iijima (Portland, Ore. / Westview) and Grace Lorenz (Oklahoma City, Okla. / Epic Charter Schools) rallied from an early loss to win 8-4 at No. 3.
Lorenz and Moss made quick work of singles to end the match. Neither dropped a game, as Moss played at No. 2 and Lorenz at No. 4.
The remaining four singles matches each favored W&L by 1-0 series scores. Long (1) and Iijima (5) were both 6-0, 5-1 at the end of the match, while Carlton worked 6-0, 4-0, 6-0, 4-0.
The Generals will play in the conference championship game Sunday at home at 10 a.m. against the winner of the Sweet Briar/Averett semifinal.
