When you’re the engine of the nation’s best offensive line in college football, chances are you’ll hear your name called early in the NFL draft. Still, the two outgoing Michigan football offensive linemen had to wait until the third day of the 2023 NFL Draft, oddly enough.
ESPN’s Chris Low doesn’t get it when it comes to one of those two Wolverine offensive linemen.
In a roundtable discussion about how certain teams and players fared in last weekends big offseason event, several writers asked themselves who was the biggest steal of the 2023 NFL Draft. Foreign awards.
The centers are typically drafted lower than they should be, but by sight Michiganp healer Oluwatimi falling to the fifth round was surprising, but great news for the Seahawks that they could wait that long to get their center of the future. The 6-3, 310-pound Oluwatimi has 10 years in the NFL and will be the center of Seattle’s offensive line. He played on the best offensive line in college football last season and won the Outland Trophy as the best interior lineman in college football and the Rimington Award as the best center. He has played in three different systems (Air force, Virginia and Michigan) and is quickly developing into a top-tier NFL powerhouse.
Oluwatimi was selected in the fifth round at 154 overall. While this seems low, in the days leading up to the draft, there were several seven-round drafts floating around where he wasn’t even selected. It is unknown if this was because the mock draft writers had forgotten about him or legitimately didn’t believe he was good enough to make the cut.
It’s a good thing he was drafted, and Low is probably right that Hell has a long, productive NFL career. But it’s still a shame that he’s being talked about as a valuable player Seahawksand less because he was able to cash in on his own talent and move up higher in the draft.
