LA Quinta, California The University of Hawaii men’s golf team won the second round of the 299 Big West Championship on Tuesday at La Quinta Country Club.
The game was abandoned due to excessive and unplayable conditions, but the five-member Rainbow Warriors managed to complete their innings with 11 overs. UH is currently tied for sixth with UC Irvine at 592.
Long Beach State holds the lead with a total of 571, followed by Cal State Fullerton (574) and CSUN (578). CSUN’s Felix Schrott holds the clubhouse lead at 5-under 139. UC Davis’ Mark Stephens is also at 5-under with two holes left to complete the second round.
Atsuya Oishi leads UH contingent with 2-146 after second straight 73. The Japanese is tied for 13thth place. Remington Hirano is one stroke back at 3-147 after second round 72 and tied 15th. Blaze Akana is in year 25th ranked 5 – over 149 at the same time Josh Hayashida is exactly 35th at 153.
Zachary Sagayaga replaced Tyler Ogawa and shot 80.
Tuesday’s final day of competition begins with the conclusion of Round 2, followed by split tees at 8:00 a.m. PT. UH is tied with Cal Poly and UC Irvine outside the No. 1 hole.
