Allen, Texas The Allen Americans defeated the Kansas City Mavericks 2-1 Monday night in Allen to take the series 4-2. The Americans move on to face the Idaho Steelheads in the second round.

The Americans opened the scoring in the first period when Stefan Fournier closed out the period and put the Americans up 1-0 with his second goal of the postseason. Allen outscored KC 16-13 in the first period.

After a scoreless second period, the Americans added to their lead in the third when Jakov Novak found his way to his first career postseason goal from Dalton Skelly and Ryan Gagnon. Allen took a 2-0 lead. The two-goal lead lasted less than a minute when Elias Rosen scored a controversial goal. It appeared to be kicked into the net, but upon review the goal stood. Kansas City outshot the Americans 9-1 as they continued to pressure Allen and goaltender Kevin Mandolese, but the Americans won to advance to the 2nd round against Idaho.

Jakov Novak: Was quite excited. This is my first shot at pro hockey, making the playoffs is one thing, but making it to the second round is even more special. We have a good group here and I’m looking forward to moving forward.
