Miami football is a completely revamped cornerback unit

The Miami football program has completely overhauled its cornerback unit starting at the end of the 2022 season. DJ Ivey and Tyrique Stevenson were selected in the 2023 NFL Draft. Four other CBs on Miami’s 2022 roster transferred after the 2022 season. Miami has added three transfers and two signees at CB for the 2023 season.

Fifth-year senior Te’Cory Couch is the only returning starter Miami at CB in 2023. Miami returns junior Malik Curtis and redshirt freshmen Chris Graves and Jaden Harris at CB from the 2022 roster. Miami has added transfers Davonte Brown from Central Florida, Terry Roberts from Iowa and Jaden Davis from Oklahoma.

Davis was the latest CB to commit to Miami as a transfer on Monday. Miami also signed Damari Brown (Devonte’s brother) and Robert Stafford in the 2023 class. The couch is the closest thing to guaranteeing a CB starting spot. Devonte Brown and Davis project ahead of Roberts on the 2023 depth chart.

Miami gained more experience with the additions of Brown, Davis and Roberts to the roster compared to the young transfers lost from the 2022 roster. Brown started 31 of the 36 games he played for Central Florida. Davis started 22 of Oklahoma’s 47 games. Roberts played in 33 games and four starts over five seasons at Iowa.

The additions of Brown, Davis and Roberts will give Miami and secondary coach Jahmile Addae more time to develop the young CBs on the Hurricanes roster. Brown and Davis have continued a trend of South Florida natives returning home as transfers to play in Miami. Davis is the most respected of the three new Miami CBs.

Brown offers Miami excellent height at 6’2 and 185 pounds as the tallest CB on Miami’s football roster. Damari Brown and Graves at 6’1 are the next tallest CBs on Miami’s roster. Miami has significantly improved its depth and experience at CB by adding Brown, Davis and Roberts for 2023.
