Emma Raducanu in the hospital: The tennis world was devastated by the sad news of the stars

The British star, 20, is undergoing three “minor procedures” in an attempt to fix her ongoing physical problems.

The 2021 US Open champion has been plagued by injury problems in recent months, pulling out of the Madrid Open last month with a hand injury.

On Thursday, the world number 85 posted a picture of himself in a hospital bed with his right arm bandaged on his social media accounts.

The shock announcement revealed that Raducanu had kept the seriousness of the injuries a secret for some time.

The sudden cuts also further explain the 58-word press conference he gave at the Madrid Open before announcing his imminent withdrawal from the tournament.

In a handwritten note to his 2.5 million Instagram followers, Raducanu wrote: “It’s safe to say the last 10 months have been tough as I dealt with a recurring bone injury in both hands.

“I tried my best to manage the pain and play through it for most of this year and the end of last year by reducing the training load dramatically, missing weeks of training and cutting last season short to try and improve it.

“Unfortunately, that’s not enough. I have both hands on a small measure to solve the problems.

“I’m disappointed to say that I’ll be out for the next few months and while I’m at it I’ve got another little procedure to do on my ankle.

“It hurts me to miss the events of the summer and I tried to play things down, so I thank all my fans who supported me when you didn’t know the facts.”

“Looking forward to seeing you all back there.”

The former world number 10 had the upper part of his playing right hand amputated – the most problematic – on Thursday.

He is due to have surgery on his left arm this month after going under the knife in his left ankle in the coming weeks.

Sun says the surgery went well and there are no concerns about his chances of a full recovery.

Raducanu hopes to be able to train on the tennis court again by the end of the summer, but his team refuses to predict an exact date for his return to competition.

Fans, other players, sponsors, tournaments and even Ian Wright flooded the post’s comments section with messages of support.

Raducanu has been fighting for form and fitness since his miraculous US Open win in September 2021.

He dropped out of the top 100 in the world last month and has decided to undergo several procedures.

Raducanu made his name at Wimbledon in 2021 with a run to the fourth round.

And he stunned the sports world when he won a qualifying match at Flushing Meadows without dropping a single set.

Raducanu has won five of his 10 matches in 2023 and reached the second round of the Australian Open, but has lost his last three at Indian Wells, Miami and the Porsche event in Stuttgart.

He also withdrew from the Auckland tournament in January after rolling his left ankle and withdrew from the ATX Austin Open with ankle inflammation.
