AMES, Iowa – An Iowa State player has been arrested on charges that he raped a woman as she lay motionless after he pushed her down the stairs at her home so hard it broke her spine.
Aidan Ralph, a 20-year-old linebacker and redshirt sophomore from Chicago, was arrested Wednesday on Story County felony sexual assault and misdemeanor domestic violence charges in the alleged attack at his Ames home on Dec. 3 around 1 a.m., court records show. .
According to the police affidavit, Ralph accused the woman of cheating and pushed her several times, including once on the stairs. The woman lost consciousness, and she asked Ralph to call an ambulance, police wrote. He refused and instead lay on top of her and raped her as she cried and begged him to stop, according to the affidavit.
The judge set Ralph’s bond at $11,000, appointed a public defender to represent him, ordered him to contact the prosecutor and scheduled the next hearing in the case for May 15. Calls Thursday to the Iowa Public Defenders Office in Story County. the connection was automatically disconnected. Ralph remained in jail Thursday.
The Iowa State athletics department has suspended Ralph indefinitely from all team activities, a spokesperson told the Ames Tribune.
