Live Blog: Yorkshire v Glamorgan, LVCC, Day Two

16.33 –Play has been suspended for the day.

at 4:01 p.m.- Durham have just announced the signing of Ajaz Patel as a replacement for the injured Matt Kuhnemann overseas. The New Zealand left-arm spinner will make his debut against his former county when we travel to Riverside next week. It’s the first of seven possible championship games.

4 in the afternoon – Tea is to be drunk at 4:10 p.m., and it will continue at 4:45 p.m. The rain has stopped.

15:35 – Tea reportGlamorgan reached 57-2 after Jordan Thompson and Mickey Edwards struck on a shortened second afternoon at Headingley.

Glamorgan lead by 196 in their second innings after Andrew Salter was trapped by Thompson and David Lloyd for 33, which skewed Edwards back.

Rain took the players off the field immediately after the Lloyd wicket – midway through the 21st over – enjoying tea.

Yorkshire, minus the injured Ben Coad, will be under considerable pressure and will need batting to get back into contention if and when play resumes.

15.33 – WICKET! Edwards is tipped back by Lloyd, where Tattersall (sub) takes a good low catch. He drops 33, and it’s 57-2. Glamorgan are 196 ahead. And let’s go into the rain.

15.03 – WICKET! Salter lbw Thompson, 15. Glamorgan are 44-1 and lead by 183. Marnus Labuschagne enters.

14.55 –Glamorgan have made a steady start to their second innings at 41-0. David Lloyd has 27 and Andrew Salter 12. The lead is 180. Adam Lyth has to juggle his bowlers without Coad. Mickey Edwards on offense and Jordan Thompson is just back, switching heads.

at 2:13 p.m.- Two overs have been bowled from Glamorgan’s second innings, one each from Fisher and Thompson. 67 left for the day. They are still 0-0 and lead by 139.

14.07- Play will resume soon. Yorkshire take the field but BenCoad is not with them. Glamorgan 0-0 after the second period. They lead by 139.

13.35 – The rain has disappeared and the judges have penciled in a restart at 14:10.

at 1:20 p.m.-Heavy rain has hit us during our lunch break. Covers on.

13:02 – lunch.Australian seamer Michael Neser scored a hat-trick en route to record seven wickets as Yorkshire endured a nightmare truncated second morning against Glamorgan at Headingley for 106.

Morning rain delayed the start of the second day until 12 noon, when Yorkshire went on to 62-5 in reply to their first innings 245.

Neser already had three cards to his name after a late burst on the first day.

Jonny Bairstow and Dawid Malan looked content early in the game, but the latter was the first of Nesers’ hat-trick when he was trapped lbw on 25 with the fourth ball over.

Neser then bowled George Hill and Dom Bess, both trying to go solo, to complete the hat-trick and leave Yorkshire 90-8 after the 28th over.

Later, Neser had Jordan Thompson caught before Ben Coad ran out of cover to end the innings as Jonny Bairstow tried to squeeze a quick single to preserve the batting.Neser finished with a career-best 7-32 on 11 carries.

Glamorgan started their second innings immediately before lunch with a lead of 139, but Matthew Fisher was bowled by Andrew Salter for a maiden.

12.51pm – WICKET! Carlson ran off Coad’s cover when Bairstow called him out trying to keep the strike. We have scored 106. Bairstow 20 not out. Neser finished with a career-best 7-32.

12.44pm – WICKET! Thompson was behind Neser, 5. The situation was 102-9.

at 12:32 – It’s remarkable to think that the last time Jonny Bairstow played a championship match for Yorkshire, in July 2018, was also a hat-trick. It was the Roses match at Old Trafford when Jordan Clark dismissed him, Joe Root and Kane Williamson. It was said to be one of the greatest hat tricks of all time.

12.30 PM – WICKET! Neser gets a hat trick as Bess tries to leave in peace. That’s 90-8. Jordan Thompson now included.

12.26pm – WICKET! Hill bowled the first ball from Neser, who strikes twice in the opener for the second time and now has five deliveries. 90-7.

12.24 – WICKET! Malan lbw Neser, 25. We are 90-6.

at 12.21-We’ve moved to 89-5 after 27 overs, five of which were bowled this morning. Malan has 25 and Bairstow 12. The start is encouraging but there is still a lot of work to do. It’s a lovely afternoon at Headingley.

at 12:01 a.m.- Yorkshire legend Katherine Sciver-Brunt has announced her retirement from all international cricket. He will continue to play for the Hundred for Trent Rockets this summer.

at 12- The first 88 bowling of the day has just started. Jonny Bairstow versus Timm van der Gugten. Bairstow has two and Yorkshire are 62-5 in reply to Glamorgan’s 245.

at 11:34 a.m.-Of the seven games in the two divisions, only two have not started today. This and another, Hampshire v Warwickshire, Division One at Southampton.

10.55 – The referees are planning a midday start here at Headingley.

at 10:30 a.m.-No official confirmation, but we can safely say that there will be a delayed start here, where the rain has stopped and wiping is underway. Fingers crossed for lunchtime play.

9.56 –The covers remain in place here at Headingley. No sign of warm-ups starting.

At 8:54 a.m.- Good morning from Headingley, another wet day. It has rained during the night, and there is rain in the air right now. The covers remain in place, so unfortunately there is great doubt about starting on time.

I’m told there’s about to be rain over the next three days, so it could be a particularly busy few days for the ground staff.

When we get underway, fingers crossed at 11, Yorkshire start 62-5 in reply to Glamorgan’s 245.

Yorkshire lost four late wickets last night to change the complexion of the day, including two night watchmen in one over Michael Neser.

Jonny Bairstow and Dawid Malan will start the day at the crease hoping to mount a counter-attack.

Mickey Edwards and George Hill picked up three wickets apiece for Yorkshire yesterday, although the former said at the end that the home dressing room was not particularly enamored with how they bowled in useful conditions.
