Four Big Ten’s Lacrosse teams competing in the NCAA Tournament

ROSEMONT, Ill.

For just the second time in Big Ten history, four teams have been selected for the 2023 NCAA Mens Lacrosse Tournament.

The inclusion of Johns Hopkins, Maryland, Michigan and Penn State matches the 2017 seasons in which Maryland and Ohio State met in the National Championship game.

Three of the four Big Ten teams will host opening-round games on Saturday, May 13 or Sunday, May 14, with second-round games scheduled for May 20-21. May. The winners of the semifinals will advance to the Final Four, which is scheduled for May 27 at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia. The national championship will be contested on Monday, May 29 in Philadelphia.

The first round and quarterfinals of the tournaments will be televised on ESPN+, and the quarterfinals and semifinals will air on ESPNU. ESPN will air the title game on Memorial Day at 1 p.m. ET.

Johns Hopkins (11-5, 4-1 Big Ten) returns to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2019, hosting America East champion Bryant on Sunday at 12:00 PM ET. With a first-round win, the Blue Jays, the tournament’s No. 6 seed, will face No. 3 overall seed Notre Dame or Utah in the quarterfinals.

Maryland (10-5, 3-2) was named tournament no. The 4 overall seed hosts Patriot League champion Army on Saturday at 7:30pm ET. The defending NCAA champion Terrapins are making their 20th consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance and 45th overall. With the win, Maryland will face either Penn State or Princeton in a quarterfinal game on Sunday.

Michigan (9-6, 2-3) earned the Big Tens automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament after winning the program’s first Big Ten Tournament title Saturday with a 14-5 win over Maryland. The only Big Ten team to open the tournament on the road, the Wolverines visit Cornell at 2:30 PM ET on Sunday in Ithaca, NY. The winner will face either overall No. 1 Duke or the winner of Wednesday’s opening round. Delaware and Marist.

Penn State (9-4, 4-1) will make its sixth tournament appearance and first since 2019 when it welcomes Ivy League champion Princeton to Happy Valley on Sunday at 7:30 p.m. ET. With a win in the first round, the 5th-ranked Nittany Lions advance to the quarterfinals with either Maryland or Army on Sunday.
