Sri Lanka and Bangladesh support BCCI to shift Asia Cup 2023 away from Pakistan

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) and Bangladesh The Cricket Board (BCB) has backed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to postpone this year’s Asia Cup Pakistan.

According to Geo News, both countries are ready to host the continental cricket event if it is shifted out of Pakistan.

Asian Cricket Council (ACC) president Jay Shah announced last year that the 2023 tournament will be held at a neutral venue instead of Pakistan.

If Pakistan decides not to participate in the Asia Cup, the ACC could consider replacing it with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in the tournament.

Jay Shah, the current ACC president and BCCI secretary, has also assured the broadcasters that the losses due to Pakistan’s absence from the Asia Cup 2023 will be made up for in future series with India.

The Center has asked the BCCI to take a firm stand on the issue in the next ACC meeting. The Indian cricket governing body is also unlikely to accept the hybrid model proposed by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for the Asia Cup, which would have seen India play its matches at a neutral venue.

Earlier, PCB Management Committee Chairman Najam Sethi called for a rational approach to resolve the crisis that threatened the hosting of the Asia Cup and participation in the ICC Cricket World Cup to be held in India later this year. .

Speaking to the media on the sidelines of the National Assembly Standing Inter-Provincial Coordination Committee (IPC) meeting, Sethi said the chances of Pakistan traveling to India for the 50-over World Cup are low.

“If India refuses to travel to Pakistan to compete in the Asia Cup, it is possible that the Pakistan government will not allow the Men in Green to cross the borders to participate in the World Cup. In that case, cricket will be the ultimate sufferer,” Sethi said.
