The New York Jets begin the 2023 season in prime form at MetLife Stadium with a divisional opener against the Buffalo Bills on Monday, September 11. The Week 1 contest, played on the 22nd anniversary from 9-11 a.m. and televised on ESPN /ABC, begins at 8:15 p.m.

The nationally televised tilt features a third head-to-head matchup between new Jets QB Aaron Rodgers and Buffalo signal-caller Josh Allen. In the Bills’ 27-17 Sunday night win over the Packers last season in Week 8, Rodgers took the loss despite putting up better numbers (63%, 2 TD, 1 INT and a 91.4 passer rating compared to 52%, 2 TD , 2 INT and a 75.1 rating) . Rodgers, a four-time NFL MVP acquired from the Packers in a trade two days before the draft, is one of at least 12 new starting QBs starting in Week 1, 2022.

Last season, the Jets and Bills split their season series with both clubs holding the tie at home. The Bills captured the AFC East for the third straight year, but the highlight of the Jets’ campaign came in Week 9 when they beat the Bills 20-17 at MetLife Stadium. In the win, WR Garrett Wilson hauled in 8 receptions for 92 yards, Michael Carter rushed for 76 yards and 1 TD and CB Sauce Gardner and S Jordan Whitehead recorded interceptions for Allen.

A stingy Jets defense sacked Allen 8 times last season, and the NFL’s 3rd-ranked pass defense (189.4 yds/g) held the Buffalo star to a 56% connection rate with 1 TD and 2 INTs. Allen also totaled 133 yards on the ground, averaging 7 yards per carry with two TDs.
