Four women’s tennis players earn LSU degrees – LSU

BATON ROUGE, The. Four members of the LSU women’s tennis team were awarded college degrees in a ceremony on the LSU campus Friday.

Graduate student Mia Rabinowitz, a native of Tenafly, New Jersey, earned a master’s degree in sports management. Rabinowitz joined the program in 2021 after graduating from Illinois and played two seasons in Baton Rouge. During that time, she had 16 singles wins and 21 doubles wins, including a runner-up finish at the 2022 ITA Southern Regional doubles with partner Maggie Cubitt. He also earned academic honors while in Baton Rouge, being named an ITA Scholar Athlete in 2022 and CSC Academic All-District in 2023.

Seniors Safiya Carrington, Maggie Cubitt and Nina Geissler also earned their undergraduate degrees while representing the Tigers over the past four seasons.

Carrington received a degree in sports administration from the College of Human Science and Education. The South Hadley, Massachusetts native was a mainstay in the lineup during his four years of playing. She earned 56 wins in singles and 48 wins in doubles, mostly playing at or near the top of the lineup. He was named second-team All-SEC in 2021 and 2022 and earned All-Louisiana honors three times during his career.

A native of Spartanburg, South Carolina, Cubitt earned a degree in marketing with a concentration in digital from the EJ Ourso College of Business along with a degree in communications. In his four years as a Tiger, Cubitt earned 24 singles wins and 41 doubles wins after overcoming injuries. As a freshman, he defeated LSU 4-3 at Vanderbilt in the final singles court to advance. The programs were first for the Commodores in 19 seasons. As a senior, he and Rabinowitz finished second in the 2022 ITA Southern Regional quads. Academically, Cubitt was also named an ITA Scholar-Athlete several times as well as earning spots on the SEC Academic Honor Roll.

Geissler completed a general degree in business administration from EJ Ourso College of Business with a minor in communication studies. Switzerland’s Rorscach was a mainstay in the lineup all four years, earning 53 singles and 46 doubles victories. Geissler finished second in singles with her partner Eden Richardson at the 2019 ITA Southern Regionals and finished as high as 14th in the ITA doubles rankings with the Englishman. He also earned All-Louisiana honors in 2020 and was a standout student while in Baton Rouge, earning ITA Scholar Athlete, SEC Academic Honor Roll and CSC Academic All-District among others.
