NCAA Men’s Tennis Singles and Doubles Championships draws released

Lake Nona, Fla. The NCAA released the draws for the 2023 NCAA Men’s Tennis Singles and Doubles Championships on Sunday, including the opponents and times for the four Texas men’s tennis singles players on Court 64 and the opponent for one doubles pair on Court 32.

In singles play starting Monday, May 22, the Juniors’ top ranking of No. 1 Eliot Spizzirri against No. 51 Tyler Stice of Auburn at 4:30 PM ET/3:30 CT, sophomore No. 28 Pierre-Yves Bailly vs. 9-16 No. 16 Connor Thomson of South Carolina at 6:30 PM ET/5:30 CT, junior No. 54 Hi Woldeab will face 9-16 seed No. 12 Garret Johns of Duke at 4 p.m. ET/3 p.m. CT and junior No. 61 Micah Braswellwho entered the field as an alternate, will play No. 6 Andres Martin of Georgia Tech at 2 p.m. ET/1 p.m. CT.

Third place and No. 3 singles Spizzirri and junior Cleeve Harper will open Tuesday with Virginia Tech’s No. 24 Jordan Chrysostom and Ryan Fishback at a date to be determined. Harper is the defending champion in the doubles tournament after winning with a partner Richard Ciamarra last year.

Spizzirri is already eligible for ITA All-America honors thanks to her top 16 singles finish, as are Spizzirri and Harper in singles thanks to their top eight seeds. They will be announced later this year.

The Big 12 Player of the Year, Spizzirri earned the No. 1 ITA singles ranking on Feb. 8 and has held it ever since. She was a first-team All-Big 12 selection in both singles and doubles and was named to the all-tournament teams at the Big 12 Championship and the ITA National Indoor Championship. He was also named ITA Indoors MVP after leading Texas to the finals for the first time. Spizzirri is 33-4 this season, including 20-1 in duals, all at No. 1 singles. He is 24-1 against ranked foes this season, including 11-0 against top-25.

In doubles, she and Harper were first-team All-Big 12 and are ranked No. 3 in the ITA.They are 24-13 this season and 19-9 in duals, including seven top-20 wins. They just finished the NCAA team competition with a 4-0 record.

A first-team All-Big 12 selection, Bailly is currently ranked No. 28 in singles by the ITA and is rated as high as No. 23 this season. He is 14-8 this year, including a 12-7 mark in dual matches, playing primarily in singles, where he was this year’s Big 12 Individual Champion.

Woldeab, a second-team All-Big 12 honoree in singles and the league’s individual co-champion at No. 3, is ranked as high as 13th this year with a current rating of 54. He is 29-11 overall and 18-8 in duals. He mostly played at No. 4, where he is 11-7, but has also posted a 6-1 mark at No. 3. He started the fall game wildly, winning 11 of his first 12 matches, with all but one of those wins coming against top-100 opponents.

Braswell has missed this season due to injury, but ITA has still ranked as high as 30 in singles this season and is currently ranked No. 61. He is 18-11 overall and 14-9 in duals. mostly No. 3, where he’s 12-6. Nine of his 14 wins have come against ranked opponents. He won all five of his matches in the NCAA team competition.

The NCAA singles and doubles competition will be held from the 22nd to the 27th. May USTA National Campus Lake Nona, Fla. All doubles matches are best-of-three sets with a 10-point superbreaker played instead of a third set.
