Westchester County residents can add cricket to their activities this summer now that Westchester County’s first full cricket field is open at Croton Point Park in Croton-on-Hudson.

Cricket ambassadors in Westchester County were instrumental in developing the look of the new field. Westchester County Parks identified Croton Point Park as a prime location because its underutilized ball field could seamlessly transform into a cricket field. The change consisted of installing cement tiles over the existing field and specifying a fully cushioned turf. Several grass samples were tested to determine what gave the ball the best bounce.

The group of ambassadors gave further instructions to determine the location of the site.

Westchester County Executive George Latimer said Westchester County Parks has so much to offer, and we’re continuing to build on the splendor we already have with new features like the cricket field. I am excited that we are bringing Westchester County’s first full cricket field to Croton Point Park, giving visitors the opportunity to play cricket and explore one of the gems of the Westchester County Parks system.

Westchester County Parks, Recreation and Conservation Commissioner Kathy OConnor said: I am pleased to add cricket to the list of sports played in our parks. I encourage residents to try something new this summer and play cricket at Croton Point Park!

The cricket pitch is available for hire in one or two hour blocks, and can be hired for consecutive days. Call the Westchester County Parks Permit Office at (914) 231-4575 to make reservations and pay fees.
