Women’s tennis duo falls in second match at NCAA Championships

ORLANDO, Fla. Old Dominion’s 2022-23 women’s tennis season concluded Wednesday afternoon at the NCAA Championships at the USTA National Complex.

Tatsiana Sasnouskaya and Sophia Johnson fell to Katherine Duong and Megan Heuser of Illinois 5-7, 6-3, 10-7 in a round of 16 match that lasted nearly two hours. During the year, Sasnouskaya and Johnson finished 20-7.

The ODU tandem took the first set, winning the final three games to survive a 5-4 deficit. In the second set, Illinois jumped out to a 5-1 lead before winning 6-3. In the tiebreaker of the third set, the Illini tandem scored six of the last eight points to win 10-7.

“It was a strong season for us. We were hoping to go a little deeper in the tournament, but we’re just as proud to be here,” said the ODU head coach. Dominic Manilla. “We will continue to work hard to win bigger games in bigger tournaments. I am proud of this team. Thank you to our players, coach Sokolenko, support staff and administration for once again believing in me to lead this team. It is one of the greatest joys of my life to coach this team and call myself a monarch. I can’t wait looking forward to next season.”
