HAMMOND, La. Southeastern Louisiana University commits Putri Insani and Flory Bierma each capped off their collegiate careers by adding to their award cases Thursday, as both Lions were named to the 2023 Southland Conference Womens Tennis All-Academic Team by announcement from the league office.

Insani, an MBA candidate with a 3.80 grade point average, was named to the first team and earned her third straight SLC All-Academic nod. Bierma, who has a 3.975 GPA while working toward her master’s degree in health and kinesiology, earned her first conference All-Academic honor.

Insani and Bierma posted a 13-6 record at No. 1 doubles and went 5-2 in league matches en route to earning All-Southland recognition for the second straight season. A native of Jakarta, Indonesia, Insani finished his time at Hammond as a five-time all-conference honoree, while Bierma, a native of Kapelle, Holland, was a three-time All-SLC honoree.

Southeastern was one of three schools with multiple SLC All-Academic selections, along with UIW and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Southland Conference Player of the Year Brandelyn Fulgenzi was named the SLC Womens Tennis Student-Athlete.

Head coaches, SIDs and an academic staff member from each Southland Conference institution vote for all academic teams. Candidates must have a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA. Freshmen and student-athletes who are in their first season at their current institution are not eligible for academic consideration.
