Class features:

The Head Mens Tennis Coach serves as the leader in all coaching, recruiting and administrative roles for a nationally competitive Division III men’s tennis program. Individual reports to the Director of Athletics. A secondary role is to serve as the director of the Seabury Family Tennis Center and in this capacity report to the Assistant AD for facilities and operations. The individual also works closely with the women’s tennis coach regarding the use of facilities, schedules, travel and budgeting.

Main tasks:

  • Ability to work effectively with diverse groups of people;
  • Organize, Prepare and implement exercises, training and competitions;
  • Successfully recruits student-athletes in compliance with all Center College, Southern Athletic Association and NCAA rules and regulations; takes into account the core values ​​of diversity and inclusion in higher education institutions;
  • When conducting, supervising and coordinating training and exercises, ensure that all appropriate safety guidelines are followed.
  • Responsibility for the program budget, which includes travel, equipment, staff and recruitment costs;
  • Guidance and mentoring of volunteers or student assistants;
  • Guidance in all areas of the program;
  • Lead the holistic development of tennis athletes;
  • Represents the program and the college to students, parents, the community, alumni, and the general public;
  • Manage the day-to-day operations and administration of the men’s tennis program;
  • Work in conjunction with Athletic Administration to ensure proper care, preparation and maintenance of facilities are addressed;
  • Actively participate in department-wide fundraising projects;
  • Other duties assigned by the Director of Athletics;
  • Secondary duty to serve as Director of Seabury Family Tennis Center;

Entry requirements:

Education and experience

We require a bachelor’s degree and previous training in coaching positions. CPR, AED and First Aid certifications are required upon hire and must be kept current.

Knowledge and skills

Demonstrated knowledge and coaching skills of tennis and its rules; commitment to the Division III philosophy; commitment to diversity and the ability to work effectively with diverse populations; Knowledge of NCAA and SAA rules; and demonstrated ability to recruit, retain and mentor student-athletes are essential. Other qualifications include communication skills that enable the ability to teach, motivate and advise student-athletes effectively, as well as being self-starter, positive, energetic, eager to teach and willing to travel. The ability to foster a team environment and the ability and desire to work successfully in a team-oriented sports department are essential.

Physical requirements:

Moderate physical activity. Requires handling up to 25 lbs. Standing and/or walking for more than four hours a day.
