DURBAN, South Africa, May 27 (Xinhua) — Fan Zhendong and Wang Chuqin helped China reclaim the men’s doubles title after beating South Korea’s Jang Woo-jin and Lim Jong-hoon in straight games at the ITTF World Table Tennis Championships (WTTC) Finals here on Saturday.

Runners-up in the previous series, who fell to Sweden’s Mattias Falck and Kristian Karlsson two years ago in Houston, the Chinese pair won the title in a showdown 13-11, 11-6, 11-5.

Despite a 6-9 deficit, Fan and Wang held their nerve to grab four points in a row to win the intense first game.

The Chinese paddlers did not face much opposition in their opponents’ next two games en route to victory.

Wang said the first game was the key to their victory. “We managed to overcome adversity. It was a great final and I’m happy to win the title,” he said.

The fan expressed his gratitude to the fans. – The atmosphere inside the venue was electric, and it forced us to perform in the best possible way, said the world number one.

South Korea’s Lee Sang-su and Cho Dae-seong and Germany’s Dimitrij Ovtcharov and Patrick Franziska shared the bronze medal.
