Yashasvi Jaiswal confirmed as Ruturaj Gaikwad’s replacement for WTC final | Cricket

Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) opener Ruturaj Gaikwad has lined up another Indian Premier League (IPL) star in India’s standby list for the ICC World Cup final against Australia. Rohit Sharma’s Team India will face Pat Cummins-led Australia in the top match of the ICC World Cup next month. The newly ranked team are set to lock horns with the Baggy Greens on June 7 at the London Oval.

With former Vice-Captain KL Rahul ruled out of the ICC World Cup final, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) named opener Ishan Kishan in place of the injured batsman. While Kishan was included in the Indian Test squad, IPL stars Gaikwad, Mukesh Kumar and Suryakumar Yadav were named as stand-by players.

On Sunday, the ICC announced the final squad for the WTC finals and while India made no changes to the original 15, Yashasvi Jaiswal has replaced Ruturaj Gaikwad in the standby list.

According to several reports, Gaikwad will get married on June 3 ESPNcricinfo, the CSK opener can join the India camp only after June 5. Thus, Gaikwad has been replaced by Jaiswal in the standby list of players for the World Test Championship final. As the RR opener has a UK visa, the uncapped Indian batter can leave for London next week.

Rajasthan Royals opener Jaiswal has been in sublime form this season. The RR batter had a successful season in the IPL. The Indian youngster smashed 625 runs in 14 innings in IPL 2023. Jaiswal has scored 1172 runs in 37 IPL matches. He made his IPL debut against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium in 2020. The 21-year-old also has a noteworthy record in first-class cricket. Young Jaiswal averages 80.21 and has amassed 1845 runs in 15 matches. The uncoated Indian batter has struck nine centuries and two fifties.
