Chicoine, Hudson won gold at the U21 Pan American Cup

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. Chloe Chicoine and Eva Hudson earned gold medals at the NORCECA U21 Pan American Cup as the United States swept Mexico in the championship game Sunday night in Nogales, Sonora, Mexico.

Freshman-to-be Chicoine was named Most Valuable Player and first-team outside hitter for the second straight year after leading the team with 54 total points during the tournament, including 39 attacks, eight blocks and seven service aces.

Both Boilermakers saw action in the title match, with Chicoine leading all players with 19 points (12 attacks, five blocks and two aces) and Hudson registering two service aces.

Meanwhile, Hudson scored 16 points in the team’s four matches, which included 11 attacks, two blocks and three service aces.

The win marked Hudson’s first gold medal for the U21 national team, while it was Chicoine’s second.

Although the U21 team will end its streak, the Boilermakers will continue to represent the United States on the international stage. Alums Annie Drews, Danielle Cuttino and Ashley Evans compete for the Volleyball Nation’s League (VNL) senior national team. The Boilermakers, who make up 21% of the team’s roster, will first compete in Antalya, Türkiyeon on May 31 against the world’s number one team in Serbia.
