Becker, Maxwell, Edwards named D1Softball All-Americans

WATER WITHOUT POWER Oklahoma State Softball Rachel Becker was named a D1 Softball first team All-American, Kelly Maxwell was named to its second team Tallen Edwards earned All-America freshman team recognition.

The trio brings OSU softball’s All-American selection to 49 total.

Becker, a first-team All-Big 12 and first-team NFCA All-Region honoree, has been one of the nation’s most consistent offensive weapons in his first year at Oklahoma State and the final year of his collegiate career.

The Cowgirls’ second baseman and leadoff hitter is preparing for her first career NCAA Women’s College World Series appearance with a .449 batting average, .648 slugging percentage and .563 on-base percentage. He is tied for the OSU single-season program record with 22 doubles.

The Cowgirls’ second baseman and leadoff hitter set an OSU program record by hitting safely in 49 consecutive games from Feb. 10 to April 29. He has put together a 20 game hitting streak (second longest in OSU history) from March 17th to April 29th. April 22 and a separate 18-game hitting streak from February 11 to March 5 (third-longest in OSU history).

For Maxwell, this year’s honors mark the second consecutive season in which he has earned All-America honors D1 Softballafter being named to its All-American first team in 2022.

Currently sporting a 1.77 ERA and 16-5 record over 138.1 innings, the redshirt senior and two-time All-Big 12 first-teamer finished the regular season leading the Big 12 Conference in strikeouts, strikeouts per seven innings and hits allowed. per seven innings.

Maxwell has 223 strikeouts before the start of the 2023 NCAA Women’s College World Series. He is one of six pitchers in program history to record more than 200 strikeouts in multiple years at Oklahoma State.

Edwards represents Oklahoma State’s first freshman All-American selection in the Gajewski era. The freshman outfielder made the most of her decision to forgo her senior year at Southmoore High School in Moore, Oklahoma, to enroll early at Oklahoma State and earn the Cowgirls’ starting role in left field.

Oklahoma State’s only true freshman starter, Edwards ranks in the top five among teammates in batting average (.329), runs (40) and hits (55).

Becker, Maxwell, Edwards and the Cowgirls begin play in the 2023 NCAA Women’s College World Series on Thursday when they face No. 3 nationally ranked Florida State at 6:00 pm CT on ESPN.
