MSC Cruises takes delivery of its newest mega ship

As a significant step towards sustainable cruising, MSC Cruises has received its newest cruise ship, MSC Euribia. The cruise ship, the fifth in MSC’s Meraviglia-class series, will depart Saint-Nazaire later this week, and the official naming ceremony will take place in Copenhagen on June 8.

MSC Euribianamed after the Greek goddess Eurybia, known for ruling the seas, will sail her inaugural season in Northern Europe with cruises to Norway, Germany, Denmark, the Netherlands and other destinations.

MSC Euribia Delivered

After construction period of two yearsMSC Cruises and Chantiers de l’Atlantique celebrate the official handover of the newest cruise ship in the MSC fleet, MSC Euribiatoday, May 31.

The vessel is touted as the most energy-efficient cruise ship ever built, incorporating the best environmental technologies available, including advanced sewage treatment and waste management systems.

MSC Euribia is also the second MSC Cruises ship to run entirely on liquefied natural gas (LNG) after Cruise Lines’ current flagship, MSC World Europa.

Pierfrancesco Vago, head of MSC Group’s cruise division, expressed his enthusiasm for the ship’s delivery.

“With the delivery of MSC Euribia, we are taking a big step towards our goal of zero greenhouse gas emissions. In addition to its excellent environmental innovations, MSC Euribia offers a revolutionary design in terms of energy efficiency, which allows it to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Vago emphasized the importance of energy efficiency in combating climate change: Often, in reducing carbon dioxide emissions, the focus is exclusively on measures related to energy sources. Although they are an important part of the energy transition, we must not forget the key role that energy efficiency plays today in reducing energy demand. The cleanest energy is the one we don’t use, and MSC Euribia is built on this principle.

An unprecedented cruise experience

The new MSC cruise ship offers guests a unique cruise experience. The ship’s culinary offer is extensive, and there are more than a dozen places to eat. There are five swimming pools and the coral-themed Ocean Cay Aquapark for relaxation and refreshment, offering guests plenty of opportunities to relax and enjoy their time at sea.

Younger customers are well taken into account, which has its own facilities and a training laboratory. The ship offers a variety of kids’ clubs, including a designated play area for babies and toddlers, as well as educational activities that provide an understanding of the importance of environmental protection.

For teenage guests, Teens Club Extra Space offers a selection of interactive games and modern gaming consoles such as PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and Nintendo Switch. There are also traditional games such as table football and table tennis.

Adult guests can expect world-class entertainment options such as Carousel Lounge. This unique lounge extends outside, offering guests panoramic sea views in a stunning setting.

Partnership for innovation

Laurent Castaing, managing director of the Chantiers de l’Atlantique shipyard MSC Euribia was built, also expressed pride in the collaboration with MSC Cruises:

The ceremony also celebrated the ceremonial lowering of fuselage number X34, which will be soon MSC World AmericaMSC’s second World Class ship to be delivered in 2025.

MSC Euribiawhich has a gross weight of 181,541 tons and can accommodate up to 6,334 guests when fully booked, is scheduled to depart net zero greenhouse gas emissions trip in the history of the cruise industry.

Following a naming ceremony presided over by Hollywood icon and Academy Award-winning actress Sophia Loren, the ship will embark on its maiden voyage, a 7-night round trip from Kiel, Germany.

She will visit Copenhagen and three Norwegian ports, Hellesylt, Alesund and Flam, before departing for Kiel, Germany. MSC Euribia will continue to offer Northern European sailings until at least October 2024.
