Jimmy Adams out as CWI’s director of cricket; the search for a replacement is underway

Jimmy Adams has stepped down as Cricket West Indies’ director of cricket and the regional governing body has begun a search for his replacement.

Cricket West Indies (CWI) announced on Wednesday that the recruitment process for a new director of cricket has begun as the role will become vacant at the end of June when Jimmy Adams’ contract expires.

Adams, who played 54 Tests and 127 One-Day Internationals for the West Indies, has been in the role since January 2017.

We are very grateful for the leadership and contributions Jimmy has made over the past six and a half years,” said CWI CEO Johnny Grave.

“He has revamped our high performance structure particularly in Coach Education and Development, Sports Science and Medicine and most recently by launching our Academy located at the Coolidge Cricket Ground (CCG) in Antigua. I have no doubt that Jimmy will continue to be involved in the game, particularly West Indies Cricket.

Meanwhile, CWI President Dr. Kishore Shallow praised Adams for his contribution to West Indies cricket.

Jimmy has always served West Indies cricket with passion and honour. His calm demeanor and professionalism have inspired many positive outcomes over the years,” said Dr. Shallow.

“One of his legacies would definitely be the start of a coaching revolution in the region. On behalf of the CWI Board, we wish him a prosperous future.

Adams said it has been a privilege to provide West Indies cricket.

It has been an honor to be a part of CWI’s continued development,” he said.

“I’ve had the privilege of working with some incredible people across the organization and I’m grateful for all the support they’ve given me over the past six-plus years. I wish everyone the best for the future, especially in light of both of these different challenges, regionally and globally.

Under Jimmy Adams as Director of Cricket, CWI started a Coach Education & Development department which created new CWI coaching courses and accreditations which have seen over 1000 new certified coaches in the region; launched the Mens Academy based at the CCG in Antigua; started the U19 regional women’s tournament, the women’s A team series and the women’s Caribbean Premier League and established a department of sports science and medicine to promote a culture of fitness.

She also implemented a new selection policy, which included the appointment of separate women and youth selection panels, and established the High-Performance Coaching Group.
