England and GB Hockey welcome Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Edinburgh to Bisham Abbey

England and Great Britain Hockey was honored to welcome Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh to Bisham Abbey National Sports Center earlier this month.

Chief Executive Nick Pink, England Hockey President Mike Stoddard and Great Britain Hockey President Sheila Morrow welcomed the Duchess, who was joined by Berkshire Deputy Lieutenant Andrew Try, to the heart of British Hockey, where both the men’s and women’s England and Great Britain teams train.

The Duchess was presented to members of the men’s senior team, including head coach Paul Revington, GB’s current FIH Pro League top scorer Nick Bandurak, Tom Sorsby, Jack Waller, goalkeeper Ollie Payne, assistant coaches Zac Jones and Craig Seiben, and a Welsh and GB player. Jacob Draper.

The men spoke to the Duchess about their recent achievements as well as the importance of hockey in schools across the state and the fantastic work clubs do to build relationships between local schools and the hockey community.

After meeting executive directors Rich Beer, Ed Barney and Kuldeep Kaur, the duchess was able to visit the training grounds to watch the women’s team in action. He spoke to Anna Toman, Jen Eadie and Holly Hunt about the show and the side’s progress before FIH Pro League matches in London.

England Hockey chief executive Nick Pink said: “England Hockey was delighted that HRH The Duchess of Edinburgh visited Bisham Abbey just before the FIH Pro League matches in London. We are proud that she will continue to play a positive and active role as our patron.

“Her Royal Highness loves and loves the game and she was able to share this with the staff, the government representative and the senior men and women players in Great Britain. Her knowledge and understanding of hockey was there for all to see and hear. and we are delighted to have such a leading role model, who doesn’t see our progress as a sport.”
