Four games in 2023, Kick Times, TV details

PROVO, Utah– Another mile marker in the BYU football countdown has arrived. The start times and weekday evening games for the first three weeks of the season have been published.

Four of BYU’s games for the upcoming 2023 season received start times and TV information Wednesday.

BYU is preparing for its first season as a member of the Big 12 Conference. By joining the Big 12, BYU’s TV deal now falls within the conference. FOX and ESPN own the rights to the Big 12 broadcasts.

All BYU football action on the radio remains at the Cougars’ old home, KSL NewsRadio (102.7 FM, 1160 AM).

Games with no announced kick-off times will receive TV information 12 days or up to six days before the start date of the game.

BYU vs. Sam Houston

Date: Saturday 2.9

Start: 20:15

TV: FS1

First meeting between BYU and Sam Houston. BYU hosted the Bearkats to open the 2023 season after Tennessee backed out of a trip to Provo to play Virginia in nearby Nashville.

Sam Houston is moving from the FCS, where they were a powerhouse, to Conference USA.

BYU vs. Southern Utah

Date: Saturday 9.9

Start: 1 p.m

TV: ESPN+

BYU football and Southern Utah have met one previous time. That was in Kalani Sitake’s first season in 2016. BYU won that game 37-7.

Initially, this matchup was scheduled for November when BYU was an FBS Independent. However, as a member of the Big 12, the FCS games advance early in the season.

BYU in Arkansas

Date: Saturday 16.9

Start: 17:30

TV: ESPN2

BYU’s first trip to Fayetteville comes in week three.

Last year, Arkansas traveled to Provo for the first time in the first part of a home-and-home series. Both Arkansas fans and the Razorback offense experienced BYU’s friendly hospitality. Arkansas fans enjoyed BYU Creamery ice cream in the stands while the Hogs torched BYU’s defense for 644 yards of offense and 52 points.

The good news for BYU is that they have a new defensive staff led by Jay Hill. The bad news is that Arkansas returns one of the top backfields in the SEC this season in QB KJ Jefferson and RB Raheim Sanders.

BYU will be looking for revenge as they face an SEC team on the road for the first time since 2019.

BYU vs. Cincinnati

Date: Friday 29.9

Start: 20:15

TV: ESPN

BYU’s first Big 12 home game is against newcomer Cincinnati. BYU and Cincinnati will land on Friday night to fulfill BYU’s request to avoid conflict with the General Conference of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints that weekend.
