Ohio State Football Recruiting: A couple of big targets have the Buckeyes among the top schools

June is going to be incredibly important in recruiting for the Ohio States 2024 class, and Thursday will get the ball rolling. With the staff fully invested in making these next few weeks important, news is coming fast. Fortunately, hosting that many top targets seems to bode well for Ohio State’s chances of turning some of them into commitments, and yesterday was a step in the right direction thanks to the top in-state target for the 2024 class.

Springfield, Ohio native Aaron Scott might be one of the most talked about players in the Buckeyes’ 2024 class, and that’s because of how important he is to get on the floor. Certainly a position of need, it’s only made more serious because he’s as high up as he is and because he’s a child of the state. Although he has been at the center of some Twitter drama with the Northern team, things have come back down to earth in the last couple of weeks as the Scotts’ chances of finishing remain close to home.

Scott announced his list of his top five schools on Twitter on Thursday, keeping Penn State, Michigan, Tennessee, Oregon and Ohio State in the mix. The The No. 56 player nationally, Scott is the sixth-best cornerback in the class and the second-ranked player in Ohio and already has official visits in the works, according to the 247Sports Composite.

After his visit to Oregon, Scott is taking the process seriously, and while most recruiting this close to home seems to go in Ohio State’s favor, there’s still a lot of work to be done, and there’s another chance to do just that in June.

The five-star defensive lineman cuts his school list to six

In keeping with the top schools list trend, Ohio State saw more good news about staying in the mix as another big defensive target shared his latest recruiting update. A 6-foot-5, 290-pound defensive lineman from Louisiana Dominick McKinley narrowed his mind to just six programs and nearly 30 offers to his name. The McKinley is the 29th player in the country, the fifth best in his position and the best player in his state. According to the 247Sports Composite.

Ohio State was joined by Oklahoma, Texas, Texas A&M, LSU and Georgia to round out the finalists. The Buckeyes host McKinley this weekend when he arrives in Columbus on Friday for his official visit, and Larry Johnson will be there throughout.

After his trip, however, Dominick has official visits to Texas A&M, Oklahoma and Texas with one remaining. Usually you want one last visit, but the Buckeyes are just happy to have him on campus. If any program is good at setting the bar high, Ohio State is certainly right up there.

With a multi-day stop in Columbus, Nigel already has other official visits in the coming weeks to Penn State, Oklahoma, Texas A&M and Texas. Landing this four-star won’t be easy, but if the Buckeyes tend to be successful in a few states, Texas certainly belongs in that group. Keep a close eye on this this weekend.

• June is also a big month for camps in the state of Ohio. Hosts from across the country, kids are flocking to Columbus to earn a coveted Buckeye offer, and one in-state native in the class of 2025 has booked a date with the Buckeyes.

Edge rusher Cedric Works (Clayton, Ohio/Northmont) will camp at Ohio State on June 15 No. 352 player nationally In the 247Sports Composite for the class of 2025, Cedric currently has near-double-digit offers from the likes of Boston College, Kentucky and Pitt, but this summer he looks to add to the list.

Being able to work with the coaches this summer is a big opportunity for him, but also a chance for the staff to see how he progresses and if they want to make him a more serious contender at the big plate.
