The East-West Shrine values ​​family and football in Frisco

FRISCO, Texas – For 98 years, the East-West Shrine Bowl has been the one collegiate all-star game that has stood the test of time, showcased top NFL draft talent and provided thousands to those in need. Now, in its 99th year, the historic event has announced a move to the Ford Center at The Star in Frisco, Texas.

The 99thEast-West Shrine Bowl will be held on February 1, 2024, and will host approximately 130 college football all stars for several practices the following week. A week full of festivities benefiting the world-renowned Shriners Children’s Healthcare System.

“All of my experiences at Shriners Children’s have been wonderful.” Shrine Bowl alumnus Bob Lilly said. “It was one of the most enjoyable games I’ve ever played in. A great opportunity for these athletes. There will probably be a number of young men in this game who will eventually be professional football players. Many will be good professional football players. .”

Since the inaugural game on December 26, 1925, the East-West Shrine Bowl has hosted some of the greatest athletes in the game’s history. Players like Tom Brady, Lawrence Taylor, Walter Payton, “Mean” Joe Greene and more have all attended the event.

More specifically, former Cowboys have been well involved in games in the past. Legends such as Lilly, Randy White and Roger Staubach each participated in the Shrine Bowl. Along with three Cowboys selected after their appearances in the 2023 competition. Second-round pick Luke Schoonmaker, defensive lineman Viliami Fehoko and cornerback Eric Scott Jr. each contributed to the latest number.

“That’s what it’s all about,” Stephen Jones said. “For these talented young men to come here and showcase their wares, to be serialized. We’re definitely going to get some attention.”

For the past two seasons, the game has been played in Las Vegas, Nevada at the Raiders’ Allegiant Stadium. Prior to that, Tropicana Field in Tampa, Florida, home from 2012-2020. Additionally, the Shrine Bowl was last held in the state of Texas in 2006, when the event was hosted by the Alamodome in San Antonio.

Proceeds and awareness of the East-West Shrine Bowl benefit the Shriners Health System for Children. An organization designed to provide excellent specialty care for children regardless of patients’ ability to pay.

“Telling our story on a national stage at a sporting event is the perfect metaphor for our patients who face different challenges in their lives,” said Steven Hatchell, executive director of the National Football Foundation. “Together, their families and the Shriners Children’s care team work to live their best lives every day, winning the battle to overcome physical challenges.”
