Foster stated that in 2023, Dr. Singh has invested over three million dollars worth of his own funds to support Berbice cricket and noted that the popular doctor is one of the main reasons for the success of his presidency.

The academy is organized at the end of July at the Port Mourant Cricket Ground for a total of 70 of the county’s best players for one week. In addition, some mini-academies are organized for young people in the West Berbice and Upper Corentyne region. .

BCB Academy would be led by third tier coach Winston Smith while other coaches like Ryan Kissoonlall, Nicky Latchman, Travis Hardcourt, Ryan Algu, Tremayne Smartt and Balram Samaroo are expected to be part of the coaching staff.

Particular attention is expected to be paid to improving the batsmen’s defence, controlling the fast bowlers and getting the spinners to spin the ball instead of fast bowling.

Focus would also be on wicketkeeping, physical fitness, mental strength, captaincy and history of the game.

A number of former prominent national players would be invited to visit the Academy to talk to the players and hold sessions.

The BCB academy would also see batting cages and bowling equipment in use by the coaches for the first time. The proactive government has invested millions of dollars to buy six bowling machines and also build five batting cages in a massive youth development programme.

Foster thanked Dr Singh for his continued support of the game, noting that in 2023 he has sponsored two inter-regional tournaments and bought two bowling machines on his own.

In the past, Dr. Singh has invested heavily in the restoration of the BCB office, the purchase of water jugs for the clubs, sponsored pitch covers, published a historical coaching guide and has sponsored, among other things, the purchase of lawn mowers for the clubs.

Dr Singh stated that he was a proud Berberian who was passionate about developing cricket as a means of supporting youth development.

He remarked that he was very impressed with the way BCB under Foster led the revolution of the game in the county. In addition, he was impressed by the board’s communication skills, its responsibility and regular reports.
