There is a new fastest man in the world at two miles, and his name is Jakob Ingebrigtsen.
On Friday (June 9), the Norwegian became only the second person to run 3,218 meters in under eight minutes.Paris meeting track and field meet in Paris, France, as part of the Diamond League meeting in the French capital.
Ingebrigtsen completed the rarely run race in 7 minutes 54.10 seconds, taking around four and a half seconds off the previousthe best performance in the world (WBP) held by Kenya Daniel Komen.
The two mile race is not a world record distance and World Athletics only recognizes the WBP at this distance.
Komen was the only person to run the distance under eight minutes, with a time of 7:58.61 since July 1997.
Ingebrigtsen’s pace was helped by Wavelight technology, which uses lights inside the track to show the speed of the record in real time.
The new world best time is awaiting ratification by World Athletics.
Ingebrigtsen dominated the field, Kenyan Ishmael Kipkurui finished second with a time of 8.09.23 and Ethiopian Kuma Girma third with a time of 8.1.
