Five UNC women’s tennis players earn All-ACC honors, Crawley named ACC Player of the Year

After a dominant regular season performance and a national championship, the Atlantic Coast Conference selected five Tar Heels for All-ACC honors on the Carolina women’s tennis team on Friday.

In addition to earning a spot in singles and doubles, Fiona Crawley was named the ACC Player of the Year.

Crawley, who posted a 27-2 singles record this year, finished the season as the No. 1 player in the country, a position she has held since November. The Texas native went undefeated during the teams national championship run.

Crawley teamed with sophomore Carson Tanguilig to win the 2023 NCAA doubles championship, and the duo went 17-7 during the regular season. With their singles championship, the pair earned a spot to compete in the 2023 US Open this summer.

Reese Brantmeier and Elizabeth Scotty

Freshman Reese Brantmeier earned first team honors in both singles and doubles, and senior Elizabeth Scotty was named to the All-ACC doubles first team.

Ranked No. 9 in singles, Brantmeier finished the season with a 22-4 record and a place on the NCAA Championship All-Tournament Team. He was also named ACC Freshman of the Week four times this season. UNC’s first-year player competed at No. 1 on the team during the NCAA Tournament, where she dropped just one match against NC State’s No. 4 nationally ranked player and ACC Freshman of the Year Diana Shnaider.

Brantmeier and Scotty were runners-up at the NCAA doubles championships and finished the season as a top-10 pair. The duo posted a 14-5 record at the Tar Heels’ dual spot during the regular season.

Carson Tanguilig and Anika Yarlagadda

Tanguilig secured spots on the second singles team and first singles team, while senior Anika Yarlagadda was named to the third singles team.

Ranked No. 26 in the final Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division I rankings, Tanguilig finished her sophomore year with an 18-6 singles record. The Georgia native scored the final point for the Tar Heels in the national championship game against NC State.

Yarlagadda was the last Carolina player to earn ACC postseason recognition. Ranked No. 41, the UNC senior posted an 18-1 singles record and was the key seventh player, regularly stepping in to play the No. 6 spot during the season and the NCAA Tournament.
