Baseball falls to Stanford 8-3

STANFORD, California Texas Baseball dropped Game 2 of the NCAA Stanford Super Regional 8-3 to Stanford on Sunday at Sunken Diamond.

The Longhorns (42-21) and Cardinal will face off in a winner-take-all Game 3 Monday at 7 p.m. CT.

LeBarron Johnson Jr. started and pitched 4 1/3 innings allowing four runs on seven hits. Travis Stehle pitched four innings out of the bullpen and allowed three runs on six hits. Andre Duplantier and Chase Enchanted each recorded one in the top of the ninth.

Mitchell Daly had the Longhorn’s best day at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a home run and two runs scored. Jared Thomas went 1-4 with an RBI triple Porter Brown and Eric Kennedy each hit a double.

Stanford opened the scoring with a sacrifice fly in the first to take a 1-0 lead, but Johnson was able to get the bases loaded.

Texas took a 2-1 lead with two runs in the third. Daly led off the inning with a single to right field and Thomas followed with an RBI triple. Dylan Campbell drove in the green run on a sacrifice fly to left field.

The Cardinal had an immediate answer in the fourth inning, making it 2-2 at two. Stanford then retook the lead in the fifth inning, scoring three runs to go up 5-2 and shut out Johnson.

Daly followed with a solo home run in the seventh, his seventh of the season, to cut Stanford’s lead to 5-3.

Stanford was able to put the game away in the top of the ninth with three runs, increasing their lead to 8-5.
