Field Hockey announced the 2023 schedule

Boston The Boston University field hockey program has announced its 2023 schedule, highlighted by nine home contests at the renovated New Balance Field.

The 46th varsity season of BU field hockey begins Friday, Aug. 25, when the Terriers host Michigan State. BU last faced the Spartans in 2011.

The home schedule also includes contests against all three crosstown rivals, as BU hosts Boston College in an evening contest on Sept. 8 before visiting Northeastern (Oct. 1) and Harvard (Oct. 17) the following month for a six-game homestand. That stretch also includes tilts with New Hampshire (Oct. 6) and Columbia (Oct. 8).

– Our team is very excited about the upcoming season, the head coach said Sally Starr, who begins his 43rd season at the helm of the program. “When we walked off the field for the last spring practice, we talked about how the next time we walk up the stairs, we’ll have a brand new field, ready for new traditions and new memories. to compete at New Balance Field this past year, knowing that we’ll be back brings a lot of joy as we prepare for autumn.”

The Terriers begin defense of their Patriot League regular season title on Sept. 16 when they visit Holy Cross for the Turnpike Trophy game. BU also makes trips to Lehigh (Sept. 22) and Colgate (Oct. 20) for league contests.

BU hosts Bucknell, Lafayette and American in PL games this season. The Bison arrive in Boston for the Terriers’ league home game on October 30, while the Leopards travel on October 14. The regular season final will be played on October 28 against the Americans.

The Terriers’ first road trip of the season will be in Maine over Labor Day weekend when they visit the Black Bears on Sept. 1 before playing at Ohio in a neutral-site contest the following day. Other non-conference road contests are against Vermont (Sept. 10), Monmouth (Sept. 24) and Cornell (Oct. 22).

BU also hosts preseason openers against Boston College (Aug. 15) and Bryant (Aug. 19).

The four-team Patriot League championships are scheduled for Nov. 2 and 4, and will be played in the top seed.
