Legion of Doom left wing John LeClair will join the Flyers front office as a special advisor for hockey operations, according to general manager Daniel Briere.

LeClair will work with Patrick Sharp, who was appointed to the same position yesterday. They are involved in all aspects of the club’s hockey operations and especially in the future development of the teams.

“I am very excited and honored to be named special advisor to hockey operations,” LeClair said in a statement released by the team. I look forward to being a part of this group and making sure our number one goal is to bring the Stanley Cup to Philadelphia.

LeClair, 53, played for the Flyers from 1994-95 through 2003-04. He played 649 games in 10 years in Philadelphia. He had 333 goals and 310 assists and was a plus-197. He joined the Legion of Doom line with Eric Lindros and Mikael Renberg.

LeClair played 16 seasons in the NHL and won the Stanley Cup with Montreal in 1993. He scored 406 goals and 413 assists in 967 games.

“The addition of John LeClair to work alongside Patrick Sharp and the rest of our hockey operations group will be a powerful combination of their extensive hockey knowledge and team-first mentality,” Director of Hockey Operations Keith Jones said in a statement.

John has been around the NHL and the game for a long time and knows what it takes to bring the core ethics of our foundation to the Philadelphia Flyers.

LeClair has been inducted into several halls of fame, including the University of Vermont Athletic Hall of Fame in 2001, the United States Hockey Hall of Fame in 2009, the Vermont Sports Hall of Fame in 2012, and the Flyers Hall of Fame in 2014.

We have another great addition to our hockey operations team in John LeClair, Briere said. Johns’ hockey resume speaks for itself. His passion for the city of Philadelphia and his strong leadership skills will be key to building our team back to winning ways.
