BATON ROUGE, The. Anita Sahdiieva, a junior from Khmelnytskyi, Ukraine, has signed with LSU women’s tennis through the 2023-24 season, head coach Taylor Fogleman announced Thursday.

Chris (Simpson) and I are thrilled that Anita decided to become a Tiger,” Fogleman said. She is a young woman who loves tennis and is motivated to improve both her game and herself off the courts. She had a great first two years at Baylor and we believe she has only scratched the surface of where she can go with her tennis. He certainly could have gone many other places, but was humbled to have him join us at LSU!

Sahdiievas two seasons as a Baylor Bear saw the program reach the NCAA Tournament in both seasons, and the Ukrainian player appeared in both singles and doubles. In his freshman campaign in 2021-22, he went 18-9 in singles and 15-10 in doubles. Her 18 wins in singles play ranked third on the team, while her five wins in Big 12 play also ranked third. Her strongest moment of the season came in the first round of the NCAA tournament against Washington, where she posted a 6-4, 6-1 win over Kelly Leung to beat the Bears 4-2.

In her second season of competition, Sahdiieva earned twelve wins in singles, primarily on Courts 2 and 3 for the Bears, and earned 13 wins in doubles with four different partners at all three doubles positions. With Sahdieva’s contributions, Baylor reached the NCAA Tournament for the third straight season and advanced to the second round before falling to Texas A&M 4-0. He finished his career as a Bear 30-24 in singles and 28-21 in doubles.

Sahdiieva has been active in ITF tournaments since the end of the Baylors season, qualifying for the singles main draw at the W15 Rancho Sante Fe in May, the W15 San Diego the first week of June and the second W15 San Diego just this week. She also competed as a doubles main at these tournaments, finishing in the semifinals at W15 Rancho Sante Fe with Nikki Redelijk and then second with Malaika Rapolu at the first W15 San Diego.

He is the Tigers’ fourth signing of the summer, joining Memphis’ AranTeixid Garcia, Kansas State junior Florentine Dekkers and Miami graduate Maya Tahani. He will join the team in Baton Rouge in August prior to the 2023-24 season.
