Cavaliere Cards’ opening round 72 at the 123rd US Open

ANGELS – Christian Cavaliere shot a 2-under 72 in the opening round of the 123rd US Open at Los Angeles Country Club.

The 2020 Boston College graduate is tied for 83rd place. The top 60 on the leaderboard – including ties – qualify for weekend games in the big championship series.

“I’m happy with how I handled my nerves because I was really nervous, but I left a lot out,” Cavaliere said after the round. “The experience is incredible – my family is here, my friends are here. It’s the most fun I’ve ever had. I’m trying to take it all in and enjoy the ride.”

In the final group of the day, starting at the 10th hole, Cavaliere was 1-over through the first 12 holes. After consecutive bogeys on the par 3 4th hole and par 4 5th, Cavaliere birdied the par 4 6th and par 5 8th holes.

Among the 19 amateur players on the field, Cavaliere is fifth. He tees off during Friday’s second round of play at 11:57 a.m. ET / 8:57 a.m. local on the first hole.
