History maker Fallon Sherrock became the first female winner of the PDC World Darts Championship in 2019 and also reached the last eight of the Grand Slam of Darts in 2021 before winning the first Women’s World Championship in 2022.

Fallon Sherrock has been awarded an MBE in the 2023 King’s Birthday Honors in recognition of his services to darts.

Sherrock has made a huge global impact in women’s darts in recent years, starting with her historic victories over Ted Evetts and Mensur Suljovic when she became the first female winner of the PDC World Darts Championship in December 2019.

He later reached the final of the 2021 Nordic Darts Masters, losing to Michael van Gerwen, and also reached the quarter-finals of the Grand Slam of Darts that year.

Sherrock then won the first Women’s World Matchplay in July 2022 and has also won 10 PDC Women’s Series titles since the tour was introduced in 2020, becoming the first woman to finish nine darts in a PDC event on the Challenge Tour previously. This year.

“I am honored and amazed to have been awarded an MBE in the King’s Birthday Honors for my work in darts,” said Sherrock, who earned the nickname “Queen of the Palace”.

“To receive this level of recognition for my contribution to the game I love is beyond my wildest dreams.

“I never thought I would ever receive such a prestigious honor and I am extremely grateful.

“I’ve been fortunate to hear that my success has had a far-reaching impact in getting more people to watch and play darts, and in particular to inspire girls and young women to take up darts and other sports. I’m incredibly proud and excited about that.

“It is a valuable legacy, all due to one landmark moment at Alexandra Palace, followed by other successes, and I want to continue to promote it.

“I look forward to visiting Buckingham Palace to receive this honour, which I see as a reflection of the huge popularity of darts and a symbol of hope and opportunity for budding darts players and athletes across the country.”

Sherrock, who is in line to defend her Women’s World Matchplay title in Blackpool next month, joins the illustrious company of former world champions Eric Bristow and John Lowe and female star Trina Gulliver as darts stars to receive the MBE.

“We congratulate Fallon on being awarded the MBE and this is a great recognition of the impact he has made on the sport over recent years,” said PDC chief executive Matt Porter.

“She has been a global pioneer in women’s darts and has helped raise the standards of women’s darts to a new level.

“This is another boost for women’s darts and we also hope that this can spur Fallon on to success.”

Along with the introduction of the globally broadcast Women’s World Matchplay in 2022, played at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool during the World Matchplay, the PDC Women’s Series has expanded to 24 events this year, with prize money doubling to £10,000 per tournament.

The PDC’s commitment to women’s darts also includes places at the World Darts Championship and the Grand Slam of Darts, giving players the chance to test themselves alongside the sport’s biggest names.

Lisa Ashton held a PDC Tour Card for the 2020/2021 season, while Beau Greaves won an incredible ten events in a row and has won 12 titles in less than a year on the PDC Women’s Series circuit.

Cricket stars and a former England rugby captain were also honored

Adil Rashid and Lydia Greenway’s cricketing careers and community enterprises have also been recognized in the Birthday Honors list.

Rashid, 35, has been awarded an MBE for services to cricket, as has England’s Sam Curran.

Greenway, who won 225 caps for three England caps before retiring in 2016 and setting up the Cricket For Girls Academy, comes from the OBE.

Like Greenway, leg cycling Rashid has tried to give back to his sport through the Adil Rashid Cricket Center in his hometown of Bradford.

Former England rugby captain Sarah Hunter was also among the sports stars recognized.

Hunter, who won a record 141 caps and was part of the 2014 World Cup-winning team, has been made a CBE and is one of the most influential women on the list.
