Virginia Tech Football 2024 & 2025 Recruiting

Our streak of recruiting breaks continues as we move out of the defensive box and head outside to cornerback. You can view the rest of the recruitment specifications for 2024 and 2025 from the links below.

Tech has been successful in recruiting high-level talent at Cornerback while also developing new under-the-radar recruits. We’ve seen it from highly regarded prospects like Caleb Farley and Mansoor Delane to under-the-radar players like Dorian Strong. The 2024 cycle has gone well for the Hokies so far at cornerback, while 2025 also looks promising early on with who Tech’s top targets are.

Here’s a look at our names to watch at Cornerback for the 2024 and 2025 classes.

2024 will fill up, but maybe not full yet

Virginia Tech’s 2024 cornerback class is already filling up, but it may not be full just yet depending on how things play out in the coming weeks.

Let’s start with who’s already in, starting with three-star ATH Joshua Clarke, who starts at cornerback for the Hokies. Clarke was DB’s No. 1 priority as soon as the 2024 class became the focus of attention no later than early signing day, when Tech stood out in Northern Virginia as one of its first commitments in that class.

Then Tech made another splash in June when they landed a commitment from four-star DB Marcellus Barnes Jr. in Chattanooga, TN. Barnes could play either CB or safety, though cornerback is the expected starting spot for him. Tech beat out a stiff competition for Barnes with Florida State, Michigan State, Baylor and Ole Miss all heavily involved with him prior to his VT commitment.

So with Clarke and Barnes on board, Tech looks likely to take at most one more cornerback and one more safety to pair with Quentin Reddish. Of course, you could see Tech taking a guy who could play either CB or safety at the college level, and usually taking a fifth DB to fill out that class.

Let’s start with in-state three-star DB Noah Jenkins from Richmond powerhouse Highland Springs. Tech has been considered the frontrunner for Jenkins for a while, and he could be the guy to oversee a commitment next weekend when he takes an official visit to Blacksburg. Jenkins could have been included in our safety specs and has the size to play either position at around 6’1”-6’2” and over 200 pounds.

Down in the 757, three-star CB Milton Ferguson is an intriguing prospect who is rated a four-star by ESPN but three stars by others. Ferguson is part of a Green Run HS team loaded with Power 5 prospects, including four-star WR Keylen Adams, three-star S Tyler Butts-Baker and three-star WR Tasean Young-Stieff.

On the outside, four-star CB Troy Stevenson of Charleston, SC previously told us the Hokies were among several schools that committed to him this spring. He’s been very quiet in general, though, and it’s unclear where things stand in his recruitment at the moment.

Three-star CB Lloyd Irvin III of Maryland was one of the few newcomers to jump on Tech’s radar shortly after RB coach Elijah Brooks arrived on the VT staff. It’s unclear if the Hokies have made too much of a bet with Irvin at this point, even though he visited Tech this spring.

Javion Randall of Henrico HS in Richmond received an offer this spring and then attended camp in mid-June. Randall seems to be a bit lower on Tech’s recruiting board right now, though he’s definitely a guy to keep an eye on.

Another guy who might fall into that category is three-star Deuce Walker from Salisbury, NC. Walker visited Tech this spring and told us recently that Virginia Tech was one of the standouts in his recruitment.

Other names to keep an eye on include three-star CB Judah Jenkins of Maryland powerhouse Good Counsel and three-star DB Shae Terry, who visited Blacksburg earlier this month.

The 2025 government looks strong early on

With a couple of key pieces in the 2024 cornerback class, some of Tech’s attention may turn to a strong 2025 cornerback class, where the Hokies are already competing for big-time targets.

Let’s start with four-star Shamari Earls from Thomas Dale HS in Chester, VA. Earls is 6’1”, which could mean he’ll grow as a safety, but he definitely has the versatility the Hokies want their DBs to have. Earls was on campus last spring and is a guy Tech is sure to want to keep around the 2025 cycle.

Another top target is three-star Terrance Edwards of Richmond’s Trinity Episcopal. Trinity is always loaded with talent, with the 2025 cycle being no exception thanks to Edwards and four-star WR Isaiah Robinson. Edwards has visited Blacksburg several times, including earlier this month, and the Hokies have had a lot of momentum early in his recruitment.

Virginia native and IMG Academy CB major Preston is another familiar name, as Preston visited Blacksburg this spring. Three-star CB Christopher Spence is another VA native playing out of state for Maryland at Mt. at Mount Zion Prep and which we consider a target to watch in the 2025 cycle.

Down at 757, Knahlij Harrell is part of another wave of FBS talent coming out of Green Run HS with him and WR Jayden Anderson leading the way for the 2025 cycle. The Hokies are among the first offers in his recruitment.

Three-star Aydan West from Maryland was on campus earlier in June for a visit that went well with the Hokies in a solid spot early in his recruitment. Four-star CB Kevyn Humes also visited earlier in June and should be a guy to watch for the Hokies. Four-star recruits Tariq Hayer and Blake Woodby are a couple of other Maryland CBs to keep an eye on, though both have plenty of national interest.

More names are sure to come up, but there’s no doubt that Tech has plenty of in-state and DMV talent they’re already looking for at cornerback in the 2025 class.
