Over the years, the rivalry between India and Pakistan in sports has been historic, be it cricket or field hockey. However, when it comes down to it footballmeetings between the two teams have been limited.
India and Pakistan have met in 29 international matches. The Indian football team has been dominant, winning 16 of them and losing only four. The remaining nine matches were drawn.
So far, nine India-Pakistan football matches have been played in the SAFF Championship. The first match between them in 1993 ended in a 1-1 draw with strikes from Muhammad Nauman Khan and IM Vijayan keeping both sides deadlocked.
It was the only tie between the two teams in the SAFF Championship. India won seven games, including two semi-finals. Pakistan won only one match in the group stage in the 2003 edition thanks to Sarfraz Rasool’s goal.
