England have a mountain to climb back into the Womens Ashes after Australia grabbed the upper hand in a varied series by winning the lone Test.

Resuming from 116 for five to post 268 on the final day, with Trent Bridge opening its gates for free, England were reduced to 178 inside 90 minutes despite a defiant 54 from Danni Wyatt.

How good was Ash?! He just went on and on and on. We just played boring cricket but we were nervous all the time. Every time there were drinks we panicked but we did the simple things well.

We knew we had to bowl really well until we took the last wicket. Yes, it worked a little on the field, but England have been unreal throughout the test match. I love Dukes ball. It was really fun learning how to bowl with it. Our preparation has been really valuable.

We were cautious coming into this series. England is playing really well. Playing in away conditions we knew it was going to be difficult, there are still six games left and we will celebrate today and then prepare again. The game just kept changing, with the ball we just had to stay patient. Lots of really important moments during the game.

I really thought we were going to do it this morning, so I’m pretty disappointed. It was pretty hard to hit there. Kate Cross and Sophie Ecclestone kept a good situation inside.

There will be a feeling of a missed opportunity, we will discuss it in the dressing room. There are a lot of positives, so we have to try to dust this off and crush them into a white ball. There are a few tired bodies out there and now we just have to dust ourselves off and get ready for the next challenge.

In the end we didn’t get enough runs but that’s just the game. We have to think about the positives. I woke up really excited and did my best, which in the end wasn’t enough. It is very different from ODIs and it has been challenging. Australia are the best team in the world for a reason, they have several world class players, but so do we, but we feel confident in the T20 series.

Australia’s Ash Gardner ends up with 8-66 in England’s second innings.

She is only the second woman since Indians Neetu David in 1995 – also against England – to take eight in a Test innings.

Her match figures of 12-165 are the second best in women’s Tests. Only Shaiza Khan – 13-226 for Pakistan against West Indies in 2004 – has taken more runs in a match.

No other bowler has taken more than 11.

Australia now lead the Ashes by four points with three ODIs and three T20s remaining. With Australia in possession of the Ashes, England need to win five of those six matches to reclaim the trophy.

That’s a huge task for the Heather Knights team.

He took all five of the hosts’ remaining wickets to finish with 20-1-66-8. Gardners match figures of 12/165 are the best ever in a Test match at Trent Bridge.
