Another Gamecock commitment becomes public

South Carolina’s football program continues to make waves by snagging recruits out of a pool of prospects. A fifth #WelcomeHome tweet rounded out coach Shane Beamer’s timeline this weekend, with the Gamecocks chief announcing the commitment came on one of his official visits this coming weekend.

It didn’t take long for the young man to step forward and share his news with the world.

On Monday night, David Bucey, a 3-star safety/linebacker from Savannah Christian Prep School, announced his commitment via his personal Twitter account.

Bucey is a linebacker for his high school team at Savannah Christian, but looks set to move to defensive back (likely safety) for the Gamecocks.

Kelvin Hunter, a 4-star out of South Carolina, is currently the only safety committed to the Gamecocks. 4-stars Malcolm Ziglar and Kaj Sanders have been South Carolina’s big targets in the recruiting process thus far, but it’s unclear how many safeties defensive backs coach Torrian Gray plans to take in this class.

Bucey is a high school teammate of the class of 2025’s top all-around player, defensive lineman. Elijah Griffin. Griffin is a 6’5″ tall and 280+ pound athletic freak. His future is likely inside at defensive end, but he has the athletic ability to play outside if he doesn’t add weight. South Carolina football is considered one of Griffin’s early favorites.

Bucey’s commitment means that of the five #WelcomeHome commitments that Shane Beamer has dropped on Gamecock Nation, four have gone public. 5-star punter/placekicker Mason Love, 3-star linebacker Fred Johnson and 4-star running back Matthew Fuller announced their commitments in the past two weeks.
