PROVO, Utah– BYU football lost a defensive lineman in the 2024 recruiting class. Three-star Chance Harrison of Oxnard, Calif., announced on Twitter that he is decommitting to the Cougars.
“After countless hours of prayer and ample time to speak with my family, I believe it is in my best interest to decommission Brigham Young University (BYU),” wrote Harrison.

Harrison originally committed to BYU last September. But from the turn of the calendar year 2023, the possibility of decommitment seemed likely. Harrison has received offers from Boston College and Arizona in recent months.
Harrison continued, “I would [to] thank you to Jernaro Gilford and the entire BYU staff who were instrumental in my commitment and recruitment. Thanks to Kalani Sitake and Coach Gilford for accepting my commitment as Head and Defensive Coaches. I enjoyed my time at BYU this past year. Since my commitment in September 2022, I have spoken to Gilford and explained my plans to him, and will continue to communicate with him and the staff moving forward.
With Harrison decommitting to BYU, the Cougars 2024 class is now down to seven.
Harrison is a 6-foot-1, 175-pound prospect at Rio Mesa High School in California. He has played both sides of the ball throughout his prep career. Last season, he made 56 tackles and one interception on defense. Then on the offensive side, he had 43 receptions for 568 yards and six touchdowns.
