Martin O’Donnell marked his return to the World Snooker Tour on Tuesday by winning Group 11 in the Championship League and vowed to improve immediately.
London’s Potter hit breaks of 61 and 93 to beat Ireland’s Aaron Hill 3-0 before an 85 in the second set helped him draw 2-2 with Hossein Vafaei at Leicester’s Morningside Arena.
O’Donnell beats Fergal Quinn to secure his 32nd last place and finished in blue and pink against the Northern Irish amateur to go top of the table with seven points, three clear of world No.18 Vafae.

O’Donnell left the tour last season after turning pro in 2012, but regained his playing rights earlier this year by leading the Q School rankings to the top.
When I got dropped from the tour I didn’t enjoy it and it was all a pint of blood. I can’t play snooker like that, I don’t want to play snooker like that, and I’m not going to play snooker like that anymore.
That’s not to say I won’t try there, but the year off has given me a bit of perspective.

Shoot Out winner Chris Wakelin advanced from Group 21, beating tour debutant Liam Pullen 3-0 and Anton Kazakov 3-1. Oliver Lines won 3-0 against Wakelin and finished second in the section.
There are 32 groups of four in the SM League, with the winner of each group advancing to the second stage, which includes eight more groups of four, before the final two groups of four compete for a place in the semi-finals and final.
World number one Ronnie O’Sullivan is due to return to action on Monday 10 July and has been drawn in Group 1 alongside Scott Donaldson, Rod Lawler and Alfie Burden, who managed to regain his new two-year tour card at Q School. earlier this month.
Three-time world champion Mark Williams faces Dylan Emery, Ken Doherty and Thor Chuan Leong in Group 6 on Friday, while Masters winner Judd Trump faces Jimmy White, Reanne Evans and Xu Si in Group 2 on Tuesday 11 July.
Tour champion Shaun Murphy faces Tian Pengfei, Lukas Kleckers and Andrew Pagett in Group 4 on Wednesday 12 July.
