Table tennis athletes battle for national gold in Qung Ninh province

H NI The 2023 table tennis championships promise a competitive tournament, as all the strongest athletes have signed up to compete.

There are 152 competitors, including all 32nd SEA Games participants, from strong table tennis teams nationwide such as H Ni, H Ni T&T, Military, HCM City and Hi Dng. They compete in seven categories in men’s and women’s singles, doubles and team and mixed doubles.

Notable players include former SEA Games winner Nguyen c Tun, SEA Games bronze medalist Nguyen Anh T and defending SEA Games champions Inh Anh Hong and Trn Mai Ngc.

The seeds and drawings are based on the athletes’ results from last year’s championship.

In addition to the medals for the three best players, the organizers also give awards to the best young male and female athletes, one to the hosts of the tournament and one to the city and province with strong table tennis development.

Medals and trophies will be awarded to high-ranking competitors and teams, along with a VN350 million (US$14,900) purse, with the singles winner winning VN30 million and the winning team winning VN50 million.

“The championships are held during the country’s strong table tennis development. Athletes achieved remarkable achievements in the 32nd SEA Games. We brought home the mixed doubles gold medal after a 26-year wait. Our young players defeated strong competitors on the mainland. Vit Nam achieved gold for the fourth SEA Games in a row.

“After the excellent results of the young players last year and the 32nd SEA Games, we believe that this year’s competition, with many new faces, promises surprises. We expect interesting knocks from the youngsters,” he said.

He added that the participation of new teams such as BTS Qung Ninh, Hi Phng and HCM City Police, as well as two teams from H Ni and HCM City, showed the growing momentum of table tennis as a sport around the country.

The championship is a key base for the Vit Nam Sports Administration and the federation to select athletes for national teams to compete in international tournaments later this year.

As usual, the organizers vote for Miss Table Tennis with votes from the organizing committee, team representatives, referees and journalists.

This year, there will be a photo competition “Beautiful Moments of the 41st Nhn Dn newspaper National Championship” for all people and valuable prizes.

Organizers also organize charity activities that deliver gifts to local communities.

The championship will be broadcast live on Nhn Dn TV and Qung Ninh Television.
