Caroline Wozniacki on balancing career, family after tennis comeback announced

Caroline Wozniacki hopes to show that women can have it all.

The Grand Slam champion, 32, revealed in an interview on Thursday Vogue that he is returning to tennis after three years away from the sport. In the article, Wozniacki talked about her family of four and opened up about balancing both career and family.

“I’ve talked to a lot of women who gave up their own dreams because they wanted to be with their families, but deep down they have a longing to do something they’re passionate about,” she begins. “I want to show those women that maybe there is a way.”

“It’s definitely not easy to find the right balance and I’m lucky enough to have a supportive husband and supportive parents and the help of a nanny, but I think it’s possible. I want to prove it to myself and to those women.”

“You can have both: you can be excited about your family and everything at home and still have a career and be great at it.”

The former number one player goes on to point out that while female athletes have generally had to take breaks from the sport, men have been able to stay on the field. “We also understand: Most guys on tour don’t need to retire to have a family to play through,” he muses.

“For women, though, it’s mostly been either/or and I’d like to be part of changing that. Victoria Azarenka, Kim Clijsters and Serena [Williams] have already shown what it takes to have a baby and get back on tour. It’s not easy by any means, but it’s possible.”

In October 2022, Wozniacki and her husband David Lee welcomed their second baby together, their son James. The couple also have a daughter together, Olivia, 2.

In December 2019, Wozniacki announced her retirement from professional tennis. write on Instagram that he wanted to start a family in the near future.

“I’ve always told myself that when the time comes that there are things outside of tennis that I want to do more of, then it’s time to do. In the last few months, I’ve realized that there’s a lot more to life that I’d like to achieve off the court,” he wrote at the time .

“Marrying David was one of those goals and starting a family with him while continuing to travel the world and help raise awareness of RA (a project coming up) are all driving my passion.”
